Frequently Asked Questions

We've answered some of the most common questions about our boards, care instructions, ordering and shipping. If you can't find what you're looking for, we'd love to hear from you—simply get in touch through our Contact page.

1: Are your boards made in Australia?

Yes. Every Paddock & Pine board is proudly handcrafted in Australia using premium Australian hardwoods.

2: Is every board the same?

No. Timber is a natural product, so every board has its own unique grain, colour and character. These natural variations are part of what makes each piece one of a kind.

3: How do I care for my board?

Wash your board by hand using warm, soapy water and dry it immediately. Never soak your board or place it in the dishwasher. Regularly applying food-safe board oil will help preserve its natural beauty.

For full care instructions, visit our Care Guide.

4: How should I store my board?

Store your board in a cool, dry place with good airflow. Standing it upright or storing it on its side is ideal. Avoid storing it flat on damp surfaces or in direct sunlight for extended periods, as natural timber can move with changes in temperature and humidity.

5. Can I cut directly on my board?

Absolutely. Our boards are designed to be used and enjoyed. Whether you're slicing bread, carving meat or preparing vegetables, the durable hardwood surface is made for everyday use.

6. Are your boards food safe?

Yes. Every board is finished with a premium food-safe board oil that's suitable for preparing and serving food.

7. What’s the difference between end grain and edge grain?

End grain boards are made with the ends of the timber fibres facing upwards, creating a durable surface that is well suited to frequent chopping and heavy food preparation. They also tend to be gentler on knife edges.

Edge grain boards are made with the long edge of the timber facing upwards. They offer a strong, practical surface for everyday chopping, carving, serving and entertaining.

Both are built to be used — the right choice comes down to how you cook, how often you’ll use your board and the style you prefer.

8. What size board do I need?

That depends on how you plan to use it. A smaller board such as the Gather Board is handy for everyday preparation and serving, while larger boards give you more room for carving, barbecue preparation and entertaining.

Our heavier butcher blocks are designed for serious food preparation and cooks who want a substantial work surface.

Check the dimensions on each product page before ordering, or contact us if you’d like help choosing the right board.

9. Who makes Paddock & Pine boards?

Our timber boards, blocks and paddles are handcrafted in a workshop in the Limestone Coast region of South Australia using quality Australian timber featuring Tasmanian Oak.

Paddock & Pine is based in Mount Gambier, South Australia, and we’re proud to support Australian manufacturing and local craftsmanship.

10. Do you offer custom engraving or branding?

Yes. We offer custom engraving and branding for corporate gifts, business orders and selected products.

As every branded order is different, pricing, minimum quantities and turnaround times are quoted individually.

To discuss your requirements, email us at paddocknpine@outlook.com with the product you're interested in, approximate quantity, required date and your logo or artwork if available.

11. Can I use my board for serving as well as food preparation?

Definitely. Our boards are designed to be as beautiful as they are practical. They're ideal for preparing food in the kitchen and equally at home serving cheeses, antipasto, pizzas, breads, BBQ favourites and grazing platters when entertaining
